Grading Policy
The literacy grades will be computed as follows for each marking period.
30%- Assessments/Projects
- Teacher Made Exam
- Quizzes
- Formal Writing Final Piece
- Culminating Activity
- Presentations
- On Target Reading Responses
- Performance Task
60%- Instructional Practice
- Entrance/ Exit Activities
- Learning Activity Task
- Formal Writing Piece Mini Task
- Formative Assessment Participation
- Class Discussion Involvement
- Self/ Peer Evaluation Participation
- Revisiting an Assignment
10%- Homework
- Assignments that are to be completed at home
On Target/Reading
Students are required to read and respond to 16 novels over the course of the year.
- Due dates and task for assignments will be provided
by teacher.
- Students will complete a reading response prompt on
on the Student Response Sheet.
- 1 Reading Response per unit must be graded. The other
will receive a complete/incomplete grade.

Assignment of Novels (Per unit)
- 1 whole class/reading of novel
- 1 student choice based on teacher selection- (aligned to
to theme, genre, from a list of choices
Tracking Student Progress/Performance Requirements
1) Benchmark Assessments- In class used to assess student grade level comprehension and writing performance.
Administered in September/December/March
Will consist of:
(1) Literary Text
(2) Informational Text
(3) Selective Response Questions
(4) Short Response Questions
2) Performance Tasks- In class. Used to assess student learning for each unit. Will be used to assess student comprehension and writing ability. Will consist of a reading passage and a prompt. Students will be be scored using assessment criteria that will be based off the task.
Unit 1 Performance Task October 14th 2014
3) Unit Final Exam- In Class administered at the end of each unit. The final exam will be administered on the same day for each grade level.
Will consist of:
1-2 texts
Selective Response Questions
Short Response (based on literacy concepts instructed on throughout unit).

4) Formal Writing- At least one competed piece per unit based on writing learning targets.

5) Teacher Created Assessments- Teacher created assessments that are unique to class instruction. Will consist of selected response, short response, and on demand writing.
