Behavior Expectations
Our classroom rules are easy for students to remember!
Be responsible for class routines.
Respond to others respectfully, and at appropriate times.
Always track and listen to the speaker.
Vocalize and participate often.
Eliminate distractions
In a classroom binder, we record any event in which a student disrupts the class intentionally. Before any record, the student is given a warning. If the misbehavior continues I write an account of what happened, and I follow up with disciplinary action and parent contact. Each student is treated fairly, but some considerations are made in order to determine the cause of the misbehavior. In these moments, it is important to have consistent communication with parents.
Academic Expectations
Academic goals will vary in each unit changing unit. However, some expectations are repeatedly set in each unit.
1.Reading Goal: Students must read four novels independently in a quarter. Upon finishing each novel, the student must submit a reading response that matches the instructions on a provided handout.
2. Project Goal: Each quarter there will be two projects assigned; typically one is a formal writing assignment, and the second is a creative project. Students must follow the steps provided, and submit a final project that matches the requirements.
3. Homework/Participation Goal: Students must consistently submit their homework assignments and participate often in class. This allows us to see how students understand the material, and where they need more instruction.
4. Quarterly Goal: At the end of each unit of study, also known as an academic quarter, the students must take an exam. It is important that students consistently review notes from lessons, and study in preparation for this test.
Please feel free to work with your child in each of these academic endeavors. Reading together, planning a project, and checking homework are each great ways to get involved in your child's achievement, and are great ways to boost their confidence.
